What Is a Vacuum Insulation Panel and How Does It Work in Cooler Design?

However, the production difficulty of vacuum insulation board is very prominent: the board itself is very fragile. The vacuum insulation board is composed of many materials, and the outer aluminized barrier film, glass fiber core material, and getter are mixed together, which is almost impossible to separate. Most of the discarded VIP boards in the market can only be sent to the landfill for disposal.

As long as the daily maintenance is in place, a set of rotational molding dies can complete 50,000 to 100,000 molding productions. Adhere to regular polishing, crack inspection, and other standardized maintenance, and many molds can even produce more than 100,000 times. The long service life also makes rotational molding die a cost-effective fixed asset investment in mass production.

This cooler will directly degenerate into an ordinary foaming cooler, and the wall of the box is much thinner. Once the vacuum environment disappears, the thermal conductivity of the plate will soar from about 0.005 W/(m·K)to 0.025 W/(m·K), and the ice retention capacity will directly shrink by 50%~70%.

In addition, its box wall itself is thinner than the rotational plastic cooler, and the final insulation effect is not even comparable to the cheap entry-level cooler. This is also the biggest hidden danger in the design of VIP insulation products, and it is the most difficult to explain clearly to the end consumers who pay high prices.

At present, there is no universal unified standard. The test conditions of each brand are varied: the ambient temperature, the ratio of ice cubes to stored items, and the frequency of opening the cover are all different, and the ice preservation data of different products can’t be compared horizontally.

At minimum, look for published methodology: 80°F ambient, 2:1 ice-to-contents, ≤3 lid openings per day. Without that, a “7-day” claim is just marketing.

Not recommended. The sublimation temperature of dry ice is as low as -78.3℃, and the extreme low temperature will make the VIP outer barrier film brittle and produce fine cracks. As long as cracks appear in the membrane, the internal vacuum will fail instantly.

On the other hand, it is no problem to store dry ice in the rotary plastic cooler. Just slightly open the lid to leave a gap to release carbon dioxide; otherwise, the air pressure in the cooler will continue to rise, and the lid may be directly pushed up.
