PP Plastic Water Bottles

PP costs lower, possesses excellent heat resistance and chemical stability; it is lightweight and flexible, which makes it not prone to cracking. The appearance is usually semi-transparent or opaque and is commonly used to manufacture sports water bottles, squeeze bottles, etc.

PPSU Plastic Milk Bottles

PPSU is a high-end engineering plastic with a relatively high cost. However, it possesses extremely strong heat resistance, impact resistance, chemical resistance and durability, and is highly safe. It is widely used in baby bottles. The product is hard to achieve complete transparent in appearance and usually exhibits semi-transparent amber or brown.

PETG Plastic Sport Bottles

PETG is a transparent material with mid-range cost. It has a very similar appearance to glass and better impact resistance than ordinary PET; however, its heat resistance is relatively lower. Generally, it is not recommended to use PETG water bottles to hold boiling water, and scratches should be avoided during use to prevent leaving marks.

TRITAN Plastic Water Bottles

Tritan is a modified copolyester, a high-performance and high-end material with excellent transparency, strong impact resistance and heat resistance and is not prone to discoloration over time. However, its cost is relatively high, and it is mostly used in high-end brands or baby care products.

What’s the average service life of a reusable BPA-free plastic water bottle?

The lifespan of a reusable plastic bottle varies depending on the material and usage frequency. Under normal usage conditions, the ones made by Tritan can last for 1-2 years, while the ones made by PP can last for 6 months to 1 year.

In the following cases, the bottle should be replaced immediately: cracks or scratches on the bottle body (especially on the inside, which can easily breed bacteria), persistent residual odor after repeated cleaning, failure of the lid seal (leaking), or aging phenomena such as color change or softening of the material after long-term exposure to sunlight.

How to quickly distinguish whether the plastic water bottles on the market are actually “BPA-free” or not?

Three simple methods can be used to quickly identify:

Check the label: The bottle or packaging must clearly indicate “BPA Free”, along with the material (such as Tritan, PP) and compliance certification (GB 4806.7, FDA, etc.). If there is no label or only the “7” recycling symbol is marked without the “BPA Free” description, it is likely to contain BPA;
Smell the odor: The new bottle should be without pungent chemical odor, but a slight plastic smell (which can be dissipated after 1-2 days of ventilation) is okay;
Examine the appearance: High-quality products have a smooth and shiny surface, no bubbles or impurities, burrs shouldn’t occur on the bottle mouth, and the joints should be tight and flat.

What should be noted when using reusable plastic water bottles that do not contain bisphenol A?

Avoid filling with 100℃ boiling water (even for high-quality materials, it may accelerate aging).
Do not store acidic beverages (such as orange juice or lemonade) for a long time.
Avoid direct sunlight and high-temperature environments to prevent accelerating material aging, which might cause microplastics or other harmful substances to release.
